{"id":22,"date":"2023-04-03T01:09:45","date_gmt":"2023-04-03T01:09:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/foec.au\/?page_id=22"},"modified":"2025-05-01T00:24:07","modified_gmt":"2025-05-01T00:24:07","slug":"about-foec","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/foec.au\/?page_id=22","title":{"rendered":"About FoEC"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our Vision<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Our vision is the ongoing management and enhancement of Edgars Creek, between Edwardes Lake and its confluence with Merri Creek, as an informal and secluded bushland reserve, in a manner sympathetic to its unique geology, indigenous biodiversity and community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>To achieve our vision, we:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Establish resilient ecological vegetation class (EVC) habitat areas<\/strong>&nbsp;by consolidating restoration efforts in six key project areas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Increase biodiversity&nbsp;<\/strong>by establishing a range of ecological vegetation class (EVC) projects indigenous to the area.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Protect remnant vegetation<\/strong>&nbsp;by focusing restoration project areas around significant remnant specimens or communities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Link fragmented habitat areas<\/strong>&nbsp;by \u2018growing out\u2019 project areas over time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Improve the landscape values<\/strong>&nbsp;associated with significant geological landforms, particularly those identified in Victoria\u2019s Resource Atlas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Reduce the impact of urban development on the \u2018secluded bushland character\u2019 of the Creek Reserve<\/strong>&nbsp;through appropriate \u2018buffer\u2019 planting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Maximise the effectiveness of maintenance through intensive, localised efforts<\/strong>&nbsp;to reduce the impact of invasive weeds and pests.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sustain local community involvement<\/strong>&nbsp;through self-management, education to build capacity for \u2018knowledgeable\u2019 custodianship and targeted complementary land management agency support.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Download the <a href=\"https:\/\/foec.au\/?p=18\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/foec.au\/?p=18\">Edgars Creek Master Plan<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">FoEC mission<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To help improve the environmental and recreational quality of the Edgars Creek reserve by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>advocating for the management of this important waterway as an entire freshwater ecosystem;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>working with local Councils and Melbourne Water to ensure any maintenance and development works to deliver a real and direct benefit to the creek corridor;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>organising and facilitating events for the community to be involved in restoration works and environmental education;
